Passive Fire Protection
Passive fire protection works silently in the background — built into the fabric of a building to contain fire and smoke within defined compartments, giving occupants time to escape and reducing structural damage. We survey, install, and remediate passive fire protection systems across Essex, London, Hertfordshire, Kent and Suffolk.
Unlike active systems (alarms, sprinklers), passive fire protection requires no trigger to perform — but it must be installed correctly and maintained in good condition. The Building Safety Act 2022 and associated regulations have significantly heightened focus on passive fire protection, particularly in higher-risk residential buildings. Breaches in compartmentation are one of the most common fire safety deficiencies found during fire risk assessments — and one of the most consequential.
Passive Fire Protection Services
Compartmentation Surveys
Systematic surveying of fire compartment boundaries — walls, floors, ceilings, and service penetrations — to identify breaches that would allow fire and smoke to spread beyond the compartment. We produce a clear breach schedule with photographic evidence and remedial priorities.
Fire Stopping
Reinstatement of fire-rated compartmentation where services (cables, pipes, ductwork) penetrate walls, floors, or fire barriers. We use only third-party tested and certificated products to match or exceed the fire resistance rating of the surrounding construction.
Cavity Barriers
Installation and inspection of cavity barriers within concealed cavities and roof spaces to prevent unseen fire spread. Particularly important in older buildings and following any refurbishment works.
Intumescent Products
Supply and installation of intumescent collars, wraps, pillows, and mastic products. We select the appropriate product for each penetration type and substrate to ensure a tested, compliant solution.
Duct & Damper Inspection
Inspection and maintenance of fire and smoke dampers within ductwork penetrations — ensuring they will activate and close correctly in the event of a fire, maintaining compartment integrity.
Remedial Works
Following any survey or inspection, our teams carry out all necessary remedial works using certificated materials. We provide full documentation of works completed, including before and after photography, for your fire safety file.
